We teach 6 Reiki traditions here at CAHA, so even though people have studied elsewhere, they will get new information and attunements.
Reiki 1: Learning the protocol, principles, how and why Reiki works, and treatments for self and others, as well as the attunement, which is life-changing (at least, it was for me!)
Reiki 2: Learning how to send Reiki to situations in the past, present and future, empowering goals and treating addiction, as well as sending it long-distance. The attunement becomes more powerful, and usually, the practitioner feels the Reiki more intensely on a consistent basis.
Reiki Master Teacher: Learning over 40 Reiki Symbols. This is like taking 6 Master classes rolled into one. Learning how to apply them in various life situations, for health and relationship issues, as well as for manifesting. A very powerful class for personal spiritual progress as well as learning how to give attunements and teach Reiki to others.
Reiki Additional Symbols Courses 1, 2, and 3. Continuing Education for Reiki Masters, giving additional tools for healing, consciousness expansion and growth.
We are also still Southern California's only vocational Reiki Master school, and hours should be considered as CE's for the AMTA and the ABMP, as well as for Board of Nursing CE's.

Blog: 6/2/10. Blog: Money Affirmations
All my affirmations are working for me, whether I am actively using them or not.
I am open to receiving a large amount of money and receiving it in ways that are fortunate and unexpected.
I release my limited thoughts about the abundance, happiness, wealth, good health, friendships, and positive experiences that are available to me at all times.
I am one with a tremendous amount of money, and if I get out of my own way, it will come to me now. (Modified from Leonard Orr.
My joy attracts financial resources.
When I tune into my Divine Guidance, and take action upon it, I am led to financial abundance, prosperity, and positive experiences!
4/13/10: What Are You Doing About the Economy?:
Although the economy has seemed to be a challenge for many of us, we at the school have noticed some changes. For instance, we are receiving more calls from employers. This usually happens when they have a higher demand for treatments in their businesses, or people are opening businesses in the field of holistic health.
If you are job-seeking, have you followed up on every potential lead? Some higher-end massage and spa businesses may not be hiring, membership-based businesses have thrived through the recession.
If you would like a job in the holistic health field, consider obtaining training here. You will learn the modalities that employers desire. You will learn self-care. You will learn business acumen so that you may make informed decisions about whether you would like to work for yourself, for someone else,or both, upon graduation.
Also, remember to focus on prosperity consciousness and to release fear from your life, as much as possible. Remember to focus on your abundance of abundance, rather than your abundance of lack! You can bring positive outcomes into your life through your thoughts, words and deeds.

6/3/09: Understanding Energywork and Reiki and How They Interact in the Human Energy Field:
Energywork is a group of healing modalities that affect the flow of energy through the human energy system, including the auric field, the meridians, the chakras, the nadis, the nervous and endocrine systems and all anatomical systems in the body. At CAHA, we teach many varieties of Energywork, including Reiki, Sound Healing, Crystal Healing, Shadow Work, Flower Essence Healing, HighSelf Resonance Therapy, Meditation, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Reflexology, Herbal Healing, and more.
To see one way Energywork (in this case, Reiki and HighSelf Resonance Therapy) affects the human energy field, click
. In this video, you will see software has been used to capture what is occurring in the auric field, and you can see fluctuations in color as the software is presenting different layers of the field at different moments. In the beginning, you can see the subject's auric field as it presents prior to treatment. When the healer enters the field and begins to send the subject Reiki and healing energy, you will then observe white light as it is transduced through the healer and begins to interact with and alter the subject's field. You can then see the subject's auric field responding to the increased energy flow. This video was a real-time captured occurrence documenting changes in the auric field while the subject received a treatment. The company that designed this software can be found at www.auraimaging.com.
Sound Healing is a powerful modality which includes everything from toning with the voice to using instruments to create changes in the energy anatomy of a person. Some instruments affect a particular element in the body; for instance, metal singing bowls may affect the metal element in the body, while a wood instrument would alter the balance of the wood element in the body.
However, the tones instruments make may create harmonics, which also affect energy flow and may promote healing. Mantras, or sacred phrases repeated over and over to promote states of consciousness and to facilitate healing, have many different purposes. Many studies have shown that the states accessible through the use of mantras can increase concentration, promote healing and enhance overall function.
Recently, our students in the Sacred Sites class made three road trips to energy vortexes across Southern California. On May 9th, we traveled to Giant Rock and the Integratron, both on a magnetic energy vortex, excellent for going inward, where we did sound healing work through drumming and a sound bath with toning bowls. We also took advantage of the structure of the Integratron (www.integratron.com), which strengthens healing intent and rejuvenates the cells, and performed toning. Feel free to contact us for more information on sound healing and our classes on sound healing.

This link will take you to the American Massage Therapy Association's website to a 5-page document with more information on State Certification. If you are CMTC-certified, once your application is accepted, you will no longer need to get a city permit, but you will still need to get a city business license (but not a massage permit), and will still need to abide by zoning, health and safety ordinances. You can go to the website at www.camtc.org for future information about applications and more information. At this point, they don't have much information posted because they are still in the process of setting up their organization. The link given above in this blog has much more information.
3/2/09: The Popularity of Energywork and Energy Medicine:
Energy Medicine is a general term describing a variety of enerywork modalities, including Reiki, HighSelf Resonance Therapy, Acupressure, Sound Healing, Shadow work, Reflexology (which is a crossover between massage and energywork), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Color Healing, Crystal Healing, Flower Essence Healing, Aromatherapy, and a variety of other vibrational mind/body healing techniques. The National Institute of Health sometimes groups energywork modalities into a category that states that energy healers deal with "putative energy fields." Energywork itself is very old, dating back to the beginning of human history with shamans and tribal healers. In the last 200 years, it has grown and is used in a variety of medical and holistic contexts: hospitals throughout the United States and England use Reiki as an adjunctive therapy to cancer treatment; Color Healing is used to treat pain in some hospitals (especially in Europe and Asia), Clinical Hypnotherapy has been shown to be very effective in pain relief, behavior modification, and healing emotions. Vibrational modalities are sought after by massage aficionados who are seeking additional healing; in fact, many high-end spas offer treatments with Flower Essence, Crystal, Sound Healing, Reiki and other styles of energywork.
Energywork has been documented by the press in recent years in the L.A. Times and 60 minutes (Reiki), and via studies on the National Institutes of Health website (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez). There are many studies on Reiki, Color Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Reflexology, Massage and other healing modalities on this government website. Feel free to go to this site and type in modalities for which you would like to find information.
Energywork is discussed frequently on the Oprah Winfrey Show; and Reiki was featured in a recent episode of Gray's Anatomy.
The school Chancellor will be giving a presentation on Energy Medicine to a Public Health class at a local university featuring holistic health treatment methods and energy medicine.
For more information or training, feel free to contact us at 949-574-9480. CAHA is the only school in California to offer three professional vocational programs in energywork.
2/19/09: Information on Nutrition:
The following is an excerpt from our Nutrition and Cleansing class, and will be one topic we will discuss this fall, along with holistic nutrition, cleansing (including protocols for self-administration designed by our instructor, Traditional Naturopath Dr. Norris Carr), seasonal eating, climactic diets, understanding acidosis, understanding components of nutrition, and of course, food combining. We hope this information is helpful, and by no means, make health claims by providing this information.
Secrets of Food Combining:The observance of rules of food combining is a simple, scientifically-based system of selecting foods, from among different types, which are compatible. This facilitates easy and efficient digestion and ensures after-meal comfort.
Digestion is not merely chemical or physical process, but also a physiological one. When food enters the body, it undergoes several changes before it is broken down into its constituent parts and assimilated. But no food can be assimilated by the system and used by various organs unless it has first been digested and then absorbed in the digestive system known as alimentary canal, while the residue, unfit for absorption is eliminated from the system.
The chemical aspect of digestion is accomplished by a series of juices and their enzymes. The juices alternate between alkalis and acids, and their character is determined by the requirement of the enzymes they contain. These enzymes remain active in suitable conditions of well defined acid-alkaline ranges and are destroyed in unsuitable conditions (like cooked food).
For instance, the salivary enzyme amylase (ptyalin, the starch-splitting enzyme) is active only in an alkaline media and is destroyed by a mild acid. The gastric enzyme, pepsin, which initiates protein digestion, is active only in the acid medium and is destroyed by alkalis.
A noteworthy feature of the digestive secretions is that the body suits its fluid and enzymes to the character of the food eaten. There are, however, severe limitations in this process. It is possible to suit the juices to a particular food, however, complex it may be, but not to a variety of foods taken together. It is the combining of many varieties and incompatible foods at a meal that causes 90 per cent of digestive disorders.
There is a marked tendency to produce gastro-intestinal fermentation with certain combinations of foods. In other words, if you eat foods that require a mixture of alkali enzymes or acidic enzyme at the same time, you will probably experience gas in your digestive system.
When foods require the type of enzyme to digest them, there is no fermentation and digestion will be much more satisfactory.[1] Eat similar foods at one time in order to accomplish the most complete digestion.
A meal consisting of proteins, carbohydrates and fats may remain in the stomach for six to seven hours before the stomach is emptied. If carbohydrates are eaten without proteins, they remain in the stomach for a relatively short period. A fruit meal remains in the stomach for even shorter time. It is advisable to eat these different foods at different meals - a fruit meal, a starch meal and a protein meal.
The ideal practice is a fruit meal for breakfast, a starch meal (like a beans/rice combination or rice noodles with bok choy) with salad and non-starchy vegetables (like bok choy, carrots, celery) for lunch, and a protein meal with a salad and non-starchy vegetables for dinner.
The most important rule for combining foods is to avoid mixing protein and carbohydrate-concentrated foods. Although every food contains some protein, those regarded as protein-concentrated foods demand the longest digestive time. They are held in the stomach for some hours until the gastric juices have performed their task. This may vary from two-and-a-half to six hours, depending upon the complexity of the protein in the food. If a protein food is mixed with starch-concentrated or sugar-concentrated foods, it will usually result in fermentation. This may lead to indigestion and gas in the stomach.
Animal-food proteins, such as meats, fish and cheese, require very high concentration of hydrochloric acid (Hcl). Their gastric digestion will be greatly inhibited by carbohydrate fermentation in the stomach. This will produce more gas and increased discomfort. Eating meat, potatoes, bread and sweets together should, therefore, be especially avoided.
Protein foods are best digested when eaten with fresh vegetable salad. Primary protein foods such as nuts, seeds and soybeans also combine very well with acid fruits like oranges, pineapples, grapefruit and lemons, and fairly well with sub-acid fruits, like grapes, pears, apples, berries, apricots and peaches. These vegetables and fruits are rich natural sources of vitamin C, which aids protein digestion as previously mentioned.
The second important rule for food combining is to avoid mixing proteins and fats at the same meal. Fat in foods inhibits the secretion of gastric juices through the stomach wall and later in the small intestine (when the food passes through that area). Free fats like oil, butter, and milk tend to coat the gastric mucosa, thereby inhibiting its effort to secrete gastric juice. Fat surrounding fried foods is also regarded as free fat and it interferes with gastric catabolism. When fat-concentrated foods are taken with protein-concentrated foods, gastric catabolism will decrease and the entire process is slowed down. Animal protein-concentrated foods are especially responsible for slowing the digestive process.
Another important rule for food combining is to avoid mixing carbohydrates and acid fruits in the same meal. The starch-splitting enzyme ptyalin in the saliva plays an important role as the food is chewed. It converts the complex starch molecules into simpler sugars. Ptyalin requires a neutral or slightly alkaline medium for proper functioning and this is the normal condition of the saliva in the mouth. However, when acid foods are taken, the action of ptyalin is halted. It is, therefore, necessary to avoid acid fruits in the same meal as sweet fruits or starches. Thus tomatoes should not be eaten with starches, especially potatoes or bread.
Refined sugar products are also acidic, both in the mouth and in the bloodstream. The acidifying of the saliva by sucrose is one of the main causes of tooth decay. Bacteria breed in the mouth and also cause periodontal disease (which can lead to heart disease).
Refined sugar products can also cause severe damage to the digestive system because they create fermentation, which slows peristalsis and provides a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and pathogens in the body. Be aware that high levels of regular alcohol consumption also create these conditions because alcohol is a type of sucrose (because it is fermented).
In a nutshell, starches, fats, green vegetables and sugars may be eaten together because they require either an alkaline or neutral medium for their digestion.
Similarly, proteins, green vegetables and acid fruits may be eaten together as they require an acid or neutral medium for their digestion.
But starches and proteins, fats and proteins and starches and acid fruits should not be eaten together as a general rule, if the best results are required from the ingestion of the food eaten.
An important point to remember about meals is that the smaller the number of courses they consist of, the better digestion will be. Simple meals in every way are more conducive to health, than more elaborate ones, no matter how well they may be combined.
[1] There are always exceptions to the rule—the following is an example:
If you combine fruit juice, eggs and potatoes in your breakfast, these foods will digest together.
Eat your eggs first because the acid your body creates to digest your eggs would be neutralized if you ate your potatoes first. This is because your body creates an alkaline enzyme to digest the potatoes, which would then neutralize the acid it would create to later digest your eggs.
Fruit juice contains sugars which will help accelerate your metabolism, which will help you digest your eggs (an acid helps to digest a protein), so you can drink it with your eggs, or even later on.
Eat several bites of your eggs first with some juice. Then eat your potatoes. It is not ideal to mix the two foods, but if you give your body a head-start with the protein first, the digestion will be much smoother. Protein breaks down to amino acids, which are long molecular chains, so it takes times to break them down.

1/26/09: Remind Your Clients That Therapeutic Massage is A Necessity, Not a Luxury:
Massage Therapists, in this slow economic time, remind your clients that massage is essential for stress management. Feel free to quote part of this blog to them from this website.
Most of us look at our budgets, and then we cross our therapeutic massage treatments off our list. What we don’t realize is how important therapeutic massage is to our overall health and how this inexpensive preventative method that can pay off big in the long run.
One of the biggest challenges to our health in the early 21st century is stress. We probably face more stress than our predecessors did. Even though our lifestyle has become easier in some ways, it has become more challenging in others. The speed at which we move and the challenges that we face every day (like driving traffic, working long hours on the computer and being on the telephone) stress our bodies in ways that they were not engineered to handle. Our bodies are wonderful because they compensate for all of our activities, but sometimes they need help.
Stress has also been shown to be the cause of many health problems, and one of the best ways to handle it is to have a balance of rest/relaxation and activity in your life. During a therapeutic massage, your therapist massages your muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, organs, skin, joints, and sometimes your bones. Massage introduces oxygen to places that might not have been receive adequate supply, and thus brings healing to that area. Here are some things you may not know about massage. Massage improves your immune function, so you don’t get sick as often. It improves your ability to tolerate pain and stress. It may stop a cold or flu before they start by detoxifying the body. It helps broken bones heal faster and improves posture and intestinal regularity. It has also been proven many times to improve your outlook on life and your mood.
Feeling good makes you more productive at work, in your relationships and in your creative pursuits. Feeling balanced helps you be more aware of the direction in your life. Feeling relaxed gives you an entire new foundation from which to approach life. Make time in your life for massage. Your investment will return to you many times over.
For more information on receiving your massage or learning how to give massage, contact Ariel F. Hubbard at 949-574-9480 or cahaschool@sbcglobal.net.
1/6/09: Speaking on Reflexology with the Medical Community Follow-Up: At the presentation yesterday, I received a positive reception from the attendees at the talk on Reflexology and its evidence-based documentation. The talk detailed everything from studies showing that MRIs verified that when the big toe was stimulated, that the corresponding reflex points lit up in the brain, and that other studies verified this as well. We also discussed studies showing that Reflexology decreased pain in patients with cancer and also with chronic kidney problems. Asian studies showed that Reflexology also increased blood and chi flow when reflex points were stimulated. Participants in the talk were also shown a protocol to relieve head, neck and shoulder tension and many reported decreased pain and/or stress, and one participant reported a reduced headache as well as improved vision! It was a positive experience and I look forward to future opportunities to speak with the medical community.
1/5/09: Speaking on Reflexology with the Medical Community:
Tomorrow, I will be speaking at the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, from 4:30-5:30 regarding research on Reflexology. (If you would like to attend the talk, please e-mail me for more information.) At CAHA, we are interested in working with the medical community, either by providing treatments (Reiki treatments at a local hospital), participating in research (we hope to participate in a study at a hospital on Reiki this year), or via educational talks. We also offer Continuing Education to nurses through our Reflexology courses at CAHA.
Our goal is to teach the medical community and the public about the amazing effects Reflexology can produce, and that fMRI's have shown that when a reflex point is stimulated, the brain is, indeed, also stimulated in the area reflected by that reflex point.
Reflexology is a legitimate healing modality, as many studies have shown. It can produce amazing results and facilitate healing, as well as provide a helpful adjunct modality to other forms of treatment.
We are offering Reflexology classes in January and September of 2009. Go to the Schedule Page for more details.
1/2/09: What's Happening in 2009: 2009 will be the year you create it to be. Here at CAHA, we will have many dynamic and exciting events:

1/2/09: Your Thoughts and Feelings Manifest Your Reality:An important understanding for personal empowerment is regarding the power of your consciousness and how it can affect our external reality. This idea is based on psychological and spiritual teachings worldwide, which are based on the Universal Law of Vibration. This Law says that everything in the Universe has a vibration, and also that the Law of Vibration applies to our thoughts, feelings, desires, will and also the physical world. When we change our thoughts and feelings, we also change what we experience in the external world. The Law of Vibration is also a companion Law to the Law of Attraction. Your vibration will cause you to attract people, situations and experiences of a similar vibration to the one you are resonating with, which is why what you think and feel influence what you experience on a physical level.
Although many people are experiencing economical or financial challenges right now, this is due to the thoughts and feelings of the collective. In order words, people are experiencing lack because other people (and financial institutions) have slowed their rate of spending money. This is due to a lack of trust. However, when people trust, money flows.
How does this general situation apply to you right now? Take a look at your life and your financial situation to see if you have been affected by the economic slow down. Also look and see if your thoughts and feelings have also been affected. In other words, have you been thinking negative thoughts or have you been having fears? How are those thoughts and fears affecting your vibration, and therefore, what you are experiencing?
What happens when you think positive thoughts or have positive feelings? Often, you will notice a positive change. If there is a hesitation or delay in that positive change, it could be because you are still processing a backlog of previous negative thoughts and feelings that are still manifesting until they are complete. It could also be that you have subconscious low self-esteem or beliefs that you cannot have what you want. Once you clear negative energy, and creative positive thoughts, you will again notice improved results.
One way to have what you want is to pursue it--manifest a way to make it happen. It is important to follow up thoughts with action.
Manifesting steps:
What have you been wanting to create or experience that has not yet manifested in your life?
What are you willing to do to make it happen?
Do you believe that it could happen to you?
Do your will to make it happen and your belief that it could happen match? If not, shift your beliefs or what you are willing to do so that it could happen for you.
Use affirmations or direct positive energy toward an outcome that is for the Highest Good for All.
Give gratitude in advance for this event occurring in your life.
Send it out to the Universe and let it go.
Take action on any inspired ideas, intuitions or opportunities that arise.
Give gratitude for all of the good things that are happening!
Enjoy the process!
If you have any further questions, you may call us at 714-708-2282 or even take our Art of Manifesting course here at CAHA.
Remember to believe in yourself! You can do it!
10/24/08: Why Energywork Anyway? If you have ever given a bodywork treatment, you probably have noticed that people release far more than tension. You may have felt waves of energy, or have felt fatigue, heaviness or darkness while a person was letting go during a massage. This is because your client was releasing energetic blockages or excesses, or they may have been pulling in energy to balance out their deficiencies. If you have ever felt like someone gave you "bad vibes," what actually happened was that they were manifesting lower-vibrational energies in their energetic system, and your energetic system resonated with theirs.
The reason why we teach energywork in our school is so that our students will be prepared to clear and balance their own energy as well as to facilitate healing for their clients. This takes massage to the next level because we are not only helping people on the physical level, but also helping them on the emotional, physical and spiritual levels. Understanding and practicing energywork also makes you a more effective therapist--it is quite amazing how powerful energywork is and the results you can achieve with it.
This may also lengthen your career because it will require less effort to obtain greater results . This is because energywork can also cause muscles to relax more quickly by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, and creating a relaxation response.
If you would like more information on energywork, we will be happy to discuss it with you. Hundreds of our students have discovered the benefits of energywork along with practicing massage.
10/13/08: Making Your Dreams Happen Despite Adversity: So you know that you need to make a change. You want to pursue a career that feeds your dream. You're tired of the same job that doesn't feed your spirit. You are thinking about going to school with us, but you don't know how to make it happen.
Give us a call! Don't miss out on the opportunity to go a school like this one because you don't think you can afford our classes! We know that it can be uncomfortable to make the changes you will need to in order to be a Massage Therapist, Energyworker, Reiki Master or Holistic Healthcare Practitioner in Massage, Energywork, Reiki or Reflexology. We know it can be tough to change your life, your schedule and to finance your education. We are willing to work with you to find solutions, but you have to call us first! When we set out to create this school in the year 2000, it took us over 4 years of hard work, vision and gritting our teeth in order to create a unique school like this one, so we know it can be hard to change. But we did it, and we have been serving the educational needs of our students and graduates for over 5 years. In order to see the possibilities for yourself, you have to open up to new ways of doing things and to thinking about yourself in a different way. Give us a call--we can help! 714-708-2282.
10/9/08: Creating Space to Change Your Life! Sometimes if you want to change your life, you have to make room to do it! It is important to step in your power and give permission for changes to occur. We receive calls from people who are in transition, who live far away, who have busy lives with children and work. They want to go to school, but they feel challenged when it comes to creating space to transform their lives. Going to CAHA is a life-altering experience on many levels; professionally, personally, and spiritually. Our suggestion: rather than approaching changes in your life by being uncomfortable with change, instead, assess what would need to happen in order for you to flow into a different life. Do you need to get a different job? Do you need to ask people to help with child care? How will you manifest the money to pay for your education? (Give us a call to discuss payment plans.) Schedule time in your life to attend class, give treatments to your family and friends, and do your homework.
Do what you need to do, and then take a leap of faith. If you feel "lit up" about helping people, giving massage or energywork treatments, then the likelihood is high that you belong in a school like ours. Do what you need to do to give yourself the opportunity to get the training you need. Remember that it is also your way to help the world. Our graduates help thousands and sometimes, tens of thousands of people during the course of their careers. If that possibility excites you, step into the void and allow your life to transform!
8/30/08: Integrity. This is a cornerstone of our profession, and it means so many things to different people. To some, integrity means honoring the ethical codes and scope of practice of our profession. To others, it means showing up on time and doing what you say you will do. To others still, it means following your heart and having a career that is meaningful to you. To me, it means all of these things. What does integrity mean to you?
8/26/08 Blog: SB 731 has finally become law! In about a year, Massage Therapists will be able to voluntarily receive certification on a state-wide level. This is a first for California, and a welcome change. Thousands of people have spent many hours dedicated to this cause. This will enable us to work any where in the state. There will be a lot of changes coming up--check back for more details.
